UTech sweep Inter-Col track & field titles
UNIVERSITY of Technology (UTech) dominated the two-day Inter-Collegiate Athletic meet to retain the Norman Manley Cup for men with 214.5 points ahead of GC Foster (189.5), UWI (119), Excelsior CC (34), and Portmore CC (30) at GC Foster yesterday.
UTech also captured the Edna Manley Cup for women with 221 points to finish ahead of defending champions GC Foster (152), UWI (122), Portmore CC (28), and Mico University (21) who completed the top five places.
The top female athlete was Salcia Slack of UTech who notched 46 points after winning the long jump in 5.97m, the triple jump with 12.35m, the javelin with 41.32m and was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put.
Teammate Rampon Cooper was the top male athlete with 28 points after winning 400m hurdles in 52.16 seconds, the long jump with 7.39 metres and placing second in the triple jump.
Keisha Walkes of UWI accounted for two records after throwing 47.60m in the discus and 15.82m in the
shot put.
Her teammate Tanice Barnett won the 800, 1500 and 3000m in 2:13.51, 4:41.45 and 8:52.23 respectively.
UTech won both mile relays in 3:51.67 and 3:09.23; the women’s sprint relay in 45.23 and both sprint medleys in 3:28.60 (men) and 1:45.55 (women).
