Campion, Calabar, St Mary win TT titles
CAMPION won the Boys Under-16 and Girls Under-16 titles, Calabar won the Boys Under-19, and St Mary High won the Girls Under-19 crown in the All-Island finals of the ISSA table tennis competition on Friday at the Hy-Performance Centre.
Campion clipped Manchester 3-2 in Girls Under-16 and blanked St Mary High 5-0 in Boys Under-16; St Mary High defeated Meadowbrook 3-2 in Girls Under-19, and Calabar drubbed Belair 4-1 in Boys Under-19.
Calabar’s Under-19 Boys were winning their first All-Island crown in recent times; St Mary High Under-19 Girls last won in 2006, and the Campion Under-16 teams were winning for the first time in the three years since team competition in this age-group category was started.
Campion are coached by Level II ITTF coach Sandra Riettie, Calabar by Don-Walker Petinaud and St Mary by Shevaar Smith, Garfield Ashley and Peter Samaroo.
The Manchester team is coached by Peter Kavanaugh and Carl Daley; Belair by Patrick Clarke and Meadowbrook by ITTF Level II coach Matthew Dawson.
In individual results in the Calabar/Belair Under-19 Boys final, Mark Phillips cruised past Bruce Murray 3-0; Darrell Gordon outplayed Michael Fearon 3-1; Dimitri McGregor stopped Kahlil Little 3-1, and Javon Darrell trounced Samuel Ricketts 3-0, for Calabar’s four wins.
Rij Findlay overpowered Darren Salmon 3-0 to pull one back for Belair.
In Girls Under-19, Tracy-Ann Dattadeen eased past Trisha Champagnie 3-0; Kemolyn Frost cruised past Sherie Phipps 3-0 and Davene Buchanan overpowered Champagnie 3-0, for St Mary High’s three victories.
National champion Yvonne Foster won both consolation matches for Meadowbrook, overwhelming both Buchanan and Dattadeen by 3-0 scores.
