New Longsville blank Turners 3-0 in FX Trader CFA D-1
CHAPELTON, Clarendon — New Longsville FC shot to the top of Zone Two with a 3-0 beating of Turners FC in first-round action of the FX Trader/Clarendon Football Association Division One competition on Thursday at the Turners Oval.
Albert Staple in the 32nd, Oraine McLean (40th) and Diunvi Levy in the 57th minute were on the scoresheet for New Longsville, who are now two points clear of second-placed Bailey and Bailey’s and Spartan FC, who played out a 1-1 draw on Monday.
Also Thursday, Portland Cottage edged Cockpit United 1-0, courtesy of a Ricardo Mills 30th-minute strike in Zone One at Cockpit.
Portland have now joined Coffalls and Comfort atop the zone, but with an inferior goal average.
Coffalls blanked Abassian 3-0, while Comfort were 3-1 victors against Mitchell Town in their opening games on Monday.
Over in Zone Three, Four Paths and Cherry Tree Gardens lead the standings with three points each after 3-1 and 3-0 victories over Ebony Stars and Bucknor United, respectively.
On Wednesday, Emmanuel Strikers and Moores United had identical 1-0 wins against Cross United and Youth, respectively, to sit atop Zone Four.
The competition will continue with one rescheduled game today. Springfield and Westham will meet at the Springfield playing field, starting at 3:30 pm in Zone One.
