Miller signs 2-year deal with Swedish club
National goalkeeper Dwayne Miller of Harbour View FC has signed a two-year deal with Swedish Division I club Syrianska FC.
Miller, 22, who was between the sticks in Jamaica’s 1-2 loss to powerhouse Argentina on February 10, completed a successful two-week trial stint and will be the second Harbour View player to gain an overseas contract in two days.
On Wednesday, Harbour View announced that utility player and club captain Lovel Palmer will be joining USA Major League outfit Houston Dynamo.
According to the Syrianska FC website, the club has been searching for a goalkeeper after Simon Nurme signalled that he was leaving and they have found one in Miller.
Negotiations with the 22-year-old Jamaican’s club has been successful, and now it has been agreed and signed.
Miller has merit from the game with Jamaica’s U-20 team since 2007, where he has been at 12 caps, and with the Jamaican national team, where he has had 10 games since 2008.
In 2005 he joined the Harbour View Football Club, winning the Premier League, CFU Caribbean Cup, Under-21 League also playing in CONCACAF Champions League and Cup before topping both the Goalkeeper’s, MVP Youth Award and Best Goalkeeper, in the 2009 Premiership.
“Dwayne is an amazing talent, he is resilient and did well in the short game. In addition, he has the right age, there is a future in him. Then there are obviously some things he needs to work with, and it will be up to our goalie coach Berndt Magnusson to do,” said coach Syriac Özcan Melke Michel.
“SFC is happy that all documents are now ready, so that Miller could be on the training camp in Turkey as the team travels on Saturday,” said Ghayath Moro — team leader of the club.
Jamaican-British representative, Romel Wallen, of Pro-Goal Sports Management Limited created the opportunity for the Dwayne and the clubs.
Syrianska, which is based in Södertälje, a suburb of Stockholm, finished fourth in the Superettan, the second-highest division.
