Eastern League winners Haile Selassie High girls easily disposed of DeCarteret College, the runners-up from the Western League, before dispatching Bishop Gibson High by the same 5-0 margin to defend their LIME All-Island Schools Badminton Championship title at the Constant Spring Golf Club’s badminton hall on Thursday afternoon.
Haile Selassie contested the event with three of their four national players in Shana-Kay Bailey, Shakira Bailey, and Sheinell Hyatt on show. However, Stacy-Ann Blake was absent.

For the boys, defending champions DeCarteret College had to go the distance against St Anne’s High, eventually defeating them 3-2. St Anne’s drew first blood as Dennis Coke gave them the early lead with a 21-11, 21-17 win over Jermaine Welsh before Gerald Isaacs evened the tie for DeCarteret, defeating Jamari Rose 29-27, 21-11. Dennis Coke then partnered with Jevor Abrahams to again put St Anne’s in front, as the pair defeated Ryan Dyer and Gerald Isaacs 21-14, 16-21, 21-11. Ramone Robinson and Sean Wilson had to even things up for DeCarteret for a second time, as they disposed of Omar Bravo and Jevor Abrahams 21-12, 21-14 before Jermaine Welsh and Ryan Dyer wrapped it up for the defending champions, defeating Jamari Rose and Omar Bravo 21-11, 23-21.
In the boys’ semi-finals, Western League champions DeCarteret defeated Eastern League runners-up Haile Selassie High 3-0, while Eastern League champions St Anne’s High got a walk-over against Western League runners-up Manchester High, who were unable to attend.
