Guardian Life Open Junior Tennis Championships serves off today
The eighth Annual Guardian Life Open Junior Tennis Championship takes place at the Liguanea Club beginning at 9:00 am today and tomorrow.
The tournament will engage approximately 100 of the country’s junior players. The tournament series is expected to give merit to the growing level of the support to Jamaica’s junior players and will address the overall aim at boosting their level islandwide.
The contestants will vie for trophy prizes in the following categories — boys 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and under, and girls 12, 14 and 18 and under.
In addition to trophy prizes, the winners in each category will also receive points towards their national ranking. Participation in this tournament foster great incentive to the children as it encourages them to aim for top ranking in the junior points system.
Tournament director Llockett McGregor sees these tournament series as a motivation to young players who see tennis as a channel to excel both academically and physically. He is quite optimistic of the results and welcomes Guardian Life to another year of junior tennis.
The championship marks the second tournament in the Llockett McGregor 2010 tournament series.
