Are you gonna love what you do?
Welcome to week two of Career Walk. TEENage hopes that last week’s article gave persons food for thought. There are many careers all over the world, however, your choice should be based on what you want or love to do. The career you choose should be interesting so that you can excel at it.
When choosing a career the earning potential is very important. No matter how much you love a particular profession or how accessible the training, if the earning potential is not in keeping with your social and economic aspirations, it is unlikely that you will be happy in that career. Be mindful, however, not to choose a career only for the money, as this will result in you being unhappy and unfulfilled.
The following test can help in determining your personality classification. This is just a guide and may not always accurately determine an individual’s personality classification. Knowing your personality type will help you to identify your career type:

2) Are you a confident person who is not usually afraid to take the lead?

4) Do you recover quickly from failure or setbacks?

7) Are you usually preoccupied with the interest and well-being of others?
8) Are you usually anxious to find solutions to problems?
9) Are you usually able to explain things for others to understand?
10) Do you attempt to quickly implement ideas even when you did not do much planning?

12) Are you usually considered for leadership positions?
13) Do you prefer figuring out things without checking or receiving instructions?
Animal Keeper
This career type is not popular and it is rare and under-rated in Jamaica.
An animal keeper is a person who feeds, bathes, grooms and cares for animals. They also clean animals’ living quarters and see to the overall health of the animals.
As small and unimportant as it may seem, this is a very good and exciting career to choose. People are always, if not most times abusing animals. Don’t our animals need caring for, too?
For one to become an animal keeper, the requirements include passes in: English Language and Mathematicsat the high school level. A High school diploma is also a requirement, along with On-the-Job Training.
To do this job one must be willing to work long, odd hours. The job is also physically challenging and requires one to work in an unpleasant environment. Persons who choose this career should really have a love for animals.
Persons who are in this field can get jobs at the zoos, veterinary clinics, security firms and horse-racing companies. The demand for this job is growing. So, if you love animals this may just be the career choice for you.
