Melbourne hold edge in Junior Cup
URBAN area champions Melbourne Cricket Club has grabbed the initiative heading into today’s second and final day of the JCA all-island Junior Cup clash versus St Elizabeth at Kensington Park in east Kingston.
Replying to St Elizabeth’s modest score of 200, Melbourne closed yesterday on 207 for five, thanks to Garfield Moore’s 58 and an unbeaten 37 from Sadiki Bolt.
Byron Gayle took two for 36, while Donavan Nelson snared two for 59 for the rural area champions.
Before that Gayle (46) and Paul Palmer with 43 had pushed St Elizabeth to their first-innings total against penetrative bowling from Shamar Anderson, who took four for 65, and Christopher Lamont, who finished with figures of three for 26.
Melbourne will continue their reply at 10:00 am today to consolidate their strong position in quest of the 2010 title.
