Schoolgirl U-19 semis take centre stage
DEFENDING champions Papine High will take on Alpha Academy in the first game of a double-header in the ISSA/JHF Under-19 Schoolgirl semi-final today at 3:00 pm at Mona.
At 4:15 pm, St Andrew High tackle Excelsior in the other semi-final.
Having topped the preliminary round with four wins and two draws, Papine will be seeking to send a strong statement for the final next week Wednesday.
The league’s top scorer Tashana Edwards, with four goals, has made clear her intentions for Papine and the 1-0 win in the preliminary round on March 5 when Christina Mothersill scored should be bettered this afternoon.
Edwards will get assistance from the tall Chakiria Airey, along with Therice Williams, Trudy-Ann Knight and Mothersill to carry Papine into the final.
Alpha Academy, however, have not abandoned hope, believing that Britanny Smith and Shanakay Reid will set the stage for an upset victory.
Later, St Andrew, with three wins and three draws in the preliminaries for second-place, will try to absorb the antics of Excelsior, determined to reach the final.
Demi Nicholson, Kamille Griffiths, and Stephanie Channer have been the spearhead of St Andrew this season and they are expected to continue, while Excelsior, who blunted Immaculate’s chances of reaching the semi-final when they won 1-0 on Wednesday, will look to Shanakay Gordon and Leshawn Fuller to pave the way for a final berth.
