Alison Hinds to roll it at Mas Camp tonight
KNOWN by fans worldwide for her powerful voice and high-energy shows, the undisputed Caribbean Queen, Alison Hinds is set to bless the Bacchanal Jamaica Mas Camp stage tonight.
The legendary soca star was born in England and moved to Barbados with her mother when she was 11 years old. After graduating from high school, she joined popular band Square One and immediately began touring non-stop, playing bars, hotels and eventually gaining enough popularity to fill bigger venues throughout the Caribbean.
Hinds’ first hit with Square One was 1996’s Ragamuffin, which won the Road March during the Barbados Crop Over Festival. The next year she repeated that victory as well as winning the Party Monarch, with Twister, making her the first woman in Barbados to capture both titles. Hinds recorded 11 albums with the band, including their debut Full Bloom which had success internationally and featured the hit Faluma.
In 2004, after getting married and having a daughter, Hinds took a temporary leave from a gruelling six years on the road. The break allowed the Queen of Soca to see her career in a new light and she soon realised that going solo would be a good creative move that allowed her to determine own schedule. Eighteen months after her hiatus, she went solo and formed her own band, The Alison Hinds Show, enabling her to take her dynamic set world-wide, touring throughout the US, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean. That same year, Hinds returned to the soca scene with one of her most popular songs to date, the ultimate girl anthem, Roll It Gyal.
Hinds has also collaborated with local artistes such as Richie Spice and Jah Cure.
Other entertainment for the night will be provided by DJ Smoke of Renaissance, DJ Bambino, and Sparkles Productions.
