Young stars on show at Central Champs
THE fourth MILO Central Champs runs off today at GC Foster College in St Catherine with a record 40 schools including two new ones, Ascott High and Hydel High.
The two-day meet will begin at 9:30 am each day and will feature defending girls and boys champions Holmwood Technical and St Jago High, respectively.
The top five schools last year were Holmwood, Vere Technical, Edwin Allen, Manchester High and Bellefield among the girls, and St Jago, Holmwood, Claude McKay, Edwin Allen and Vere Technical in the boys category.
Meet director and coach of Manchester High School, Jerry Holness, indicated that this year’s championship will see high-quality competition as the top five girls schools nationally all hail from the central region.
In the boys section, St Jago are expected to be the runaway winners based on their current form and the fact that last year they won by a huge margin over Holmwood.
Some of the young athletes to look out for this year include Jenieve Russell and Chris-Ann Gordon from Holmwood; Shericka Jackson from Vere; sisters Nikita and Ristananna Tracey from Edwin Allen; Natoya Goule and Sandrae Farquharson from Manchester; Kemoy Campbell from Bellefield and Kemar Bailey-Cole from Old Harbour High.
The first event on the track this morning will be the 400- metre hurdles Open for boys and girls, while the meet will end with the 4×400 metres relays for both categories.
