May Pen, Green Park cop Clarendon youth titles
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Many-time champions May Pen Primary and Green Park Primary and Junior High were crowned respective champions of the Guardian Life/Clarendon Football Association (CFA) Under-13 and Under-15 youth leagues after contrasting victories in the finals at West Park Community Centre last Wednesday.
In the curtain-raiser, a second-half strike from Peter Bailey carried Green Park to a 1-0 triumph over Trout Hall All-Age in the Under-15 decider for junior high schools.
In the feature, May Pen needed penalties to get past perennial rivals Watsonton Primary 4-2 in the Under-13 final for primary schools.
Both teams had earlier played to a 1-1 stalemate after full and extra-time. David Allen scored for May Pen, while Rolin Campbell equalised for Watsonton in regulation time.
In the meantime, action in the CFA High School Under-13 competition was set to continue yesterday and today with four games.
Yesterday, Clarendon College were set to host Claude McKay at Clarendon College, while Spalding High and Knox College battled at Spalding. Both games start a 3:00 pm.
Today, Central High and Denbigh High will lock-horns in the feature game of a double-header at West Park Community Centre at 3:00 pm. In the curtain-raiser, Garvey Maceo play Hastings Academy at 2:00 pm.
