Oscar B and Zoelah energise Mas Camp
Socaphiles once again packed the Mas Camp last Friday for Bacchanal Jamaica’s Star of Asia night sponsored by Fame FM and featuring Oscar B and Zoelah.
With early entertainment and music provided by DJ Craig Ross of Kool 97 FM, alongside Omar C and Sparkles Productions, the event kicked off with ultimate soca hype man Abe Baracatt building the vibe of the crowd.
As rags waved and waists gyrated, Tobagonian Oscar B, no stranger to this Jamaican soca audience stepped onstage and took revelers on a trip down soca lane singing hits from the past such as Soca Butterfly, then bringing the crowd right up to the 2010 chart toppers such as Palance, and others.
In the middle of Oscar B’s set, relatively new soca crooner Zoelah Boyde — who is originally from St Vincent and the Grenadines, but now calls Trinidad home — blessed the Mas Camp with her unique voice belting out hits such as Wine Up On Me, Go Down Low, and 2010’s More Wata.
“I think I need a dictionary to find a word that describes the vibe and energy at Mas Camp, it was that wonderful. But I must say I love performing for the people of Jamaica and the Mas Camp crowd,” said Oscar B.
Zoelah who performed for the first time in Jamaica was still on a high from her performance, “I did not know that the people of Jamaica loved soca so much, they made me feel so good. I had a great time, and it seemed like the crowd enjoyed themselves too.”
With the stage performance concluded with Palance, patrons continued to dance the night away until the night concluded at 2:00 am. On his way out of the venue Wayne John’s had this to say, “We glad to see Oscar B back on a Jamaican stage again. And that girl Zoelah, what a great voice. She will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.”
Tickets go on sale at the Mas Camp on Thursday afternoon. This Friday, Bajan Caribbean Queen Alison Hinds is set to ‘roll it’ on stage.
