Shock defeats for Central, Rockfort
CENTRAL KIngston and Rockfort failed to make progress towards the Claro/KSAFA Major League title yesterday, as both suffered big defeats at the hands of Whitfield Town and UWI with three rounds to play.
In other games, Police National blanked Swallowfield 4-0; Browns Town turned back Liguanea 4-2; Molynes and Olympic Gardens ended 0-0, while the game between Cooreville and Greenwich Town was not played because of a lack of security personnel.
At Rockfort, Oneil Fairweather, Anthony Grant and Andre Bernal got a goal apiece as the home team fell to title-chasers UWI, who moved within two points of Central Kingston and one behind Rockfort.
At Winchester Park, the home team suffered a similar fate against their rivals, with Kemar Haynes scoring a double and Christopher Weston and Leon Robinson a goal each, as Whitfield Town shocked the hosts to move up two places to seventh.
Meanwhile, Howard McKenzie scored a hat-trick as Police National stayed fourth with their win against Swallowfield, which pushed them to 37 points. Fidel Anderson scored Police’s other goal.
At Vauxhall, Brown’s Town’s Graeme Green had a double while Dwayne Byfield and Ricardo Clarke were also on target in their victory over Liguanea.
Shacier Locke and Kashi Schroeter scored for the losers.
Only a point separates the top four teams in the standings. Central Kingston lead with 40, followed by Rockfort 39, UWI 38 and Police National 37.
