JC-TG, Munro-Wolmer’s in hockey semis
JAMAICA College (JC) jetted into the semi-final of the ISSA/Jamaica Hockey Federation Under-19 Schools League on Friday when top-scorer Kemar Mitchell netted twice for the Old Hope Road-based school to sink St Andrew Technical High School (StATHS) 3-0 at Mona.
Mitchell now tops the scoring chart with six goals, ahead of the Munro College duo of Amin Miller and Brandon Clarke, each on five goals.
Zone B winners JC will tackle Zone A runners-up Tivoli Gardens on Tuesday at 4:30 pm, after defending champions and Zone A winners Munro College deal with Zone B second-placed team Wolmer’s Boys at 3:15 pm in the opening semi-final.
Jonte Johnson scored the other goal for JC in their blanking of StATHS Friday when three other matches were played.
Papine High School girls maintained their merry run at the top when Christina Mothersill ensured the defending champions 1-0 win over Alpha Academy.
Papine girls completed their fixtures topping the group with 14 points, five adrift of St Andrew and Excelsior who finish their preliminary matches tomorrow and Wednesday respectively.
In other results, Leshawn Fuller grabbed her second goal of the season for Excelsior to clip Campion College 1-0 and Demi Nicholson struck twice for St Andrew to wave aside Wolmer’s Girls 2-0.
St Andrew settle their final place in the standings when they take on Immaculate Conception (four points) tomorrow at 4:15 pm, after Alpha (six points) battle Wolmer’s Girls (four points) in an effort to finish in the top four.
Immaculate play again on Wednesday when they will go up against Excelsior to end the girls preliminary matches.
Tashana Edwards of Papine lead the scorers for girls with four goals, one ahead of St Andrew High’s Demi Nicholson, and two ahead of Leshawn Fuller (Excelsior), Chakiria Airey (Papine), and Stephanie Channer (St Andrew).
