Bradley Stewart quits Rivoli United
BRADLEY Stewart, the national assistant coach of the senior football team, is said to have resigned from premier league outfit Rivoli United following a club meeting on Thursday.
The club chairman Keith Noel told the Observer yesterday that Stewart’s dual job of head coach of the club and assistant national coach was too much of a burden.
Said Noel: “Mr Stewart has a growing amount of responsibilities and he is finding it difficult to satisfy the requirements of Rivoli and it is putting some extra stress on him.”
“He decided quite amicably that he would resign so that we would get somebody in a position who could give all his time to the club,” added Noel.
“We could not ask him to give more time to the club because of his national duty, so we parted. It couldn’t go on, so he was under too much pressure,” said Noel.
“There was animosity, he resigned and we accepted it. We had a meeting with him yesterday (Thursday) and he announced his resignation yesterday,” Noel confirmed to the Observer.
Efforts by the Observer to reach Stewart for a comment proved futile up to press time last evening.
Veteran coach Stewart was appointed assistant national coach to Theodore Whitmore last June after Jamaican-born English coach John Barnes’ contract was not renewed.
Stewart is now the second national coach while on national duties that had to part ways with their club.
Last year former National Under-20 coach Donovan Duckie had a similar problem while coaching Portland-based premier league outfit St Georges.
Rivoli’s assistant coach Oneil Thomas has been given the mantle to steer the club safe of relegation after slumping to ninth-place with 30 points.
The Spanish Town-based club has won just six games from 28 matches, losing 10 and drawing 12 times and are just three points above the bottom-placed team Portmore United.
They have lost their last two premier league games to relegation rivals Arnett Gardens 0-1 and the promoted Humble Lions of Clarendon 1-4.
