Young Girlz drubbed 4-1 by Canada
MARABELLA, Trinidad (CMC) — Jamaica’s disappointing run at the four-nation Under-17 Invitational women’s tournament continued on Wednesday night when they suffered a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Canada.
Playing at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Jamaica were no match for the Canadians, conceding two goals in each half to fall to defeat.
It was the second below-par result for the Jamaicans who were held to a nil-all draw in their opening match on Sunday.
In the other match of the double-header, Trinidad and Tobago continued their barren spell, falling to a 2-0 defeat to Mexico.
Vying for their first win of the tournament, Jamaica kept the Canadians at bay until the 35th minute when Chantale Campbell found the back of the net.
Caroline Beaulne added a second two minutes before the half-time break and afterward, Sabrina Hemond put the game beyond Jamaica with a third goal in the 69th.
Eleven minutes from the end, Haillie Price secured a fourth goal for Canada who were stunned by Trudi Carter’s near 40-yard bomb which gave Jamaica a consolation goal.
Meanwhile, Mexico improved to maximum six points when they shut out the Trinidadians with a solid performance.
A mistake by goalkeeper Linfah Jones in the seventh minute gifted Mexico a 1-0 lead through Andrea Sanchez and Christina Murillo killed off the contest in the final minute, out-pacing two defenders and beating the keeper with a clinical finish.
