Munro ahead in U-19 hockey league
BRANDON Clarke and Amin Miller upped their tally to five goals apiece to lead all scorers in the ISSA/JHF Schools Under-19 League to inspire defending champions Munro College to 7-0 and 2-0 wins on Wednesday at Mona.
Clarke scored twice in Munro’s 7-0 demolition of Tivoli Gardens High in Zone A, with Miller, Shea Chambers, Xavier Hendricks, Leighton Thorpe, and Damali Morgan adding the others.
Munro have won all four matches to soar to 12 points, with Tivoli second on six points after winning two games and losing two.
In an early encounter, Miller and Levar Dunchin scored for Munro to stop Excelsior High 2-0. Excelsior remain third place in Zone A with five points, having won one, drawn two and lost one match.
Defending Under-19 girls champions Papine High kept their five-point lead when their match with St Andrew High ended goalless on Wednesday.
Papine are sitting pretty with 11 points, followed by St Andrew High, Excelsior and Alpha Academy, all tied on six points.
Immaculate Conception joined Wolmer’s Girls’ on four points after a 1-0 win over stellar team Campion College.
Boys Zone B leaders Jamaica College seek their fourth consecutive victory to maintain their 100 per cent win record when they take on third-placed St Andrew Technical this afternoon at 1:00 in another round of matches.
In the other three girls matches today, Campion meet Excelsior at 2:00 pm, Papine take on Alpha at 3:00, and St Andrew tackle Wolmer’s Girls’ at 4:00.
Preliminary rounds of the Under-19 competition ends next week, with the semi-finals of the boys contest set for next Tuesday and the semi-finals for girls scheduled for Friday, March 12.
