Glenmuir, DC, Manchester advance in ISSA TT
FOLLOWING the playing of the Rural Area semi-finals on Wednesday in the ISSA table tennis competition, all advancing teams are now known.
Teams who finished second in their zones gathered at Dinthill Technical and played-off for spots as the best second-placed finishers in a round-robin finals.
In the girls Under-19s, national champions Glenmuir blanked Titchfield 3-0 to progress to the final where they will join St Mary High and Belair in round-robin play-offs.
Glenmuir’s Under-16 girls also qualified for the final by defeating Titchfield 3-1 and will join defending Rural champions St Mary High and Manchester in the finals.
In the boys Under-16s, DeCarteret College drubbed Titchfield 4-1 to book their place and join defending champions St Mary High, Belair, Glenmuir and St James High in the finals.
Four teams qualified for the Under-19 boys semis, with the top-two finishers slated for promotion to the finals. Knox College did not turn up, leaving three teams in the actual play-offs for the two spots.
Manchester and St Mary Technical earned promotions, with the former blanking St Thomas Technical 5-0 and crushing St Mary Technical 4-1 to place first, and the latter trouncing St Thomas Technical to finish second.
They join defending champions St Mary High, Belair, Glenmuir and Titchfield in the finals, where six teams will be divided into two groups, with the group winners tackling each other for the title.
These Rural finals will be contested at Manchester High on March 16, starting at 9:00 am.
