Digicel Treasures of Kashmir costume sold out
A little over two weeks after going on sale, Digicel’s Treasures of Kashmir costume was reported sold out. According to Director of Costumes and Productions, Bacchanal Carnival, Earl ‘Fuzzy’ Franklin , “The costumes went on sale a week prior to Mas Camp opening night on February 5 and within two weeks over 50% of all costumes were sold out. While we have a few other costumes available, Digicel’s Treasures of Kashmir is completely sold out.”
This year Bacchanal revellers will be bejewelled with red and silver appliquéd costumes as they jump to high energy soca rhythms for Bacchanal Road March. “
Coming up with a theme each year is a very exciting activity as we get to delve into a lot of different cultures to arrive at the final theme. This year we decided to focus on jewellery and the cheerful attire of some of these cultures,” Franklin continued.
Commenting on why Digicel chose Treasures of Kashmir for their theme, Shelly-Ann Curran shares that, “In keeping with the overall theme of Bacchanal 2010, we wanted to showcase a culture that reflects the vibrancy and personality of the Digicel brand and we came up with the Treasures of Kashmir.”
Kashmir is an area on the northern borders of India and Pakistan and the south-western border of China. The state has a rich and deep-rooted ancient tradition in the Indian culture and heritage. Kashmir is famous for its woven and silk carpets, rugs, woollen shawls, pottery and hand-embroidered kurtas — a loose shirt falling either just above or somewhere below the knees of the wearer, worn by both men and women — with the most intricate patterns and motifs in a combination of vibrant colours and hues.
“Each week at Mas Camp, Digicel girls can be seen bedecked in ornaments and costumes representative of the Kashmir culture as they engage patrons in the various games and give-away activities in the Digicel booth,” furthered Curran.
