VCB adds voice to Haiti’s cry for help
UNESCO Champion for Sports, Veronica Campbell Brown, recently added her voice to the call for help for earthquake-ravaged Haiti when she made a special UNESCO-televised appeal for donations in order to have Haitian children re-settled in school.
Campbell Brown, an Olympic and World Championships gold medallists who is preparing for her first appearance at the IAAF World Indoors next weekend in Doha, Qatar, said in her IAAF on-line diary for March, “I’m hoping that this initiative will meet with good success as the children of this devastated country need all the support we can extend.”
The appeal was taped in the office of On Track Management in Atlanta in February.
Haiti’s capital Port-Au-Prince was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that left an estimated 250,000 dead and over a million people homeless.
Campbell Brown, who ran a season-best 7.14 seconds to win the 60m race in New York last week, wrote in her monthly diary that despite cool weather at her Atlanta, Georgia home base — the worst in over a decade — “I press on as I prepare for the World Indoors in Doha, Qatar.”
She reported that on February14, Valentines Day, drug-testers awakened her, but that did not spoil her day as later on she exchanged presents with her husband Omar before going out for dinner.
