Desperate P’More tackle leaders
IN a tale of two teams, Harbour View from east Kingston and Portmore United from St Catherine meet in a crucial encounter with both teams heading in opposite directions.
Just like in Charles Dickens’ best-selling novel, In A Tale of Two Cities depicting the contrasting living conditions of London and Paris, Harbour View’s social conditions are great sitting atop of the Digicel Premier League (DPL) in point standing, while Portmore United are due for a major revolution.
Harbour View lead with 54 points, while Portmore are at the bottom on 27. At the end of last season, both met in a title decider but were pipped on the line by Tivoli Gardens, with only three points separating the top three.
This season they are meeting for the third time, and on this occasion, Harbour View are again fighting for championship honours, while Portmore are fighting to remain in the league.
Harbour View have defeated Portmore 1-0 twice this season and should be confident of continuing their dominance.
Kavin Bryan, Jermaine Hue, Andre Fagan, Marcelino Blackburn, Dicoy Williams, Richard Edwards and goalkeeper Dwayne Miller will be key as Harbour View hunt their 10th win in their last 13 games.
On the other hand, Portmore who have not won in their last 12, must start their revolution to survive in a very competitive league.
Anthony Modeste, Mario Swaby, Adrian Reid, Bryan Bayliss, Wolry Wolfe, Steven Morrissey, Gary McIntosh and Roen Nelson will have to be the revolutionaries to turn around this team.
Meanwhile, champions Tivoli Gardens, lying second on 51 points, face a difficult opponent in fourth-placed Boys’ Town (39 points), who are trying desperately to reignite their fading title challenge.
With 11 games remaining in the season, Boys’ Town must start a winning run from now; thus title-chasing Tivoli could be in for a hard time.
Third-placed Waterhouse (42) have not won since the start of the third round and are eager for a win against an Arnett Gardens team finding form.
The ‘Junglists’ have just climbed out of the relegation zone into 10th spot on 29 points following back-to-back victories over Rivoli and Portmore and could add Waterhouse to the list.
In-form August Town, currently sixth with 31 points, travel to ninth-placed Village who are just a point behind, in an interesting midtable clash.
Clarendon’s Humble Lions, who have fallen into the relegation zone with 28 points, host a Rivoli team four places above them, but only two points ahead.
