St Mary High advance to ISSA TT finals
THE St Mary High School teams won three of the 12 matches played on Tuesday, as the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Table Tennis competition continued.
These wins included a triple-header hosted by them against Titchfield, which completed play in the two-team North Eastern Rural Zone.
The St Mary teams now qualify for the Rural finals on March 16 at Manchester High, while the Titchfield runner-up teams qualified for the semi-finals on March 3 at Dinthill.
In the three matches, St Mary High, who are now coached by former team member Shevaar Smith, won 3-0 in girls Under-19, 3-1 in girls Under-16 and 3-2 in boys Under-16. The winners, who are defending Rural champions in the girls and boys Under-16, finished with four points and Titchfield two points, in all three categories.
In other Under-16 girls action on Tuesday, hosts Ardenne defeated Wolmer’s 3-1 and visitors Campion beat Ardenne 3-1.
In other girls Under-19 matches, visitors Meadowbrook stopped Immaculate 3-1 and hosts Belair defeated reigning national champions Glenmuir 3-1.
In other Under-16 boys duels, national champions Kingston College (KC) blanked visitors St George’s College 5-0, hosts Wolmer’s drubbed Ardenne 4-1 and hosts Manchester crushed Cross Keys 4-1.
And in boys Under-19, Wolmer’s trounced Ardenne 4-1 and Manchester blanked Cross Keys 5-0.
In urban boys Under-19 Group Two, Wolmer’s and Ardenne are now tied atop the standings on eight points each, ahead of KC on seven points and Cumberland on four points. The top two will advance to semis.
KC, with six wins from as many starts, are far ahead in boys Under-16 Group two with 12 points, followed by Wolmer’s on seven points, Ardenne on six, and Meadowbrook and St George’s College on two points each. The top three will progress to semi-finals.
Belair have completed their fixtures in central girls Under-19 zone with maximum eight points, leading Glenmuir and Manchester, with a match left to play against each other, on four and three points, respectively. The top finisher will advance to a round robin finals and the runner-up to the semi-finals.
In Central One Under-19 boys zone, Manchester lead with nine points ahead of Belair on eight points, with DeCarteret and Cross Keys on five points each.
Belair and Manchester are tied on eight points each in Central One Zone Under-16 boys, ahead of DeCarteret on six points and Cross Keys on five points.
In each age-group category, Belair and Decarteret have two matches remaining, while Manchester and Cross Keys have one match each left to play.
