Great loss
Dear Editor,
For as long as I can remember I have felt safe travelling on Air Jamaica. Air Jamaica has an impeccable safety record. That’s an accolade for our country, our pilots and our entire Air Jamaica team – a testament to quality in Jamaica. It has made the tourist industry bloom into a beautiful flower – that is what it was largely used for. I remember having to fly into Montego Bay, the tourist capital, and then wait to go to Kingston, sometimes for a long time.
Have we explored every single financial avenue to keep this “hummingbird”? I leave it to the “bigger heads” to figure this out. Ever thought of Buffet, Bill Gates, others? What a great loss!
I have no idea if we will lose our national carrier, but I do have some questions:
Who will take our suitcases home?
Who will smile and give us comfort when a scared child feels the bumpy plane?
Who will make sure we are not hungry en route? Who will wait for its passengers?
Who will take our coffins home, when grandma has to run her final stretch?
Well, I cannot say right now, can I?
But please, Mr Prime Minister, think on these things. Think, think, think!
