Boys’ Town, Humble Lions in exciting draw
Humble Lions and Boys’ Town battled to an exciting 0-0 draw in their Digicel Premier League (DPL) encounter at the Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon yesterday.
Both teams entertained the large gathering with home team Humble Lions dominating possession but disappointingly had to settle for a share of the points.
Boys’ Town inched to 39 points and remained in fourth spot, 12 behind leaders Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View on 51 each.
The former champions have a lot of catching up to do if they intend to be crowned champion for the first time since 1989.
Humble Lions moved to 28 points in a tightly bundled mid table and up to press time were up to ninth in the league.
In front of a decent-sized crowd, the home team came out running and took control early with veteran playmaker Errol Wilkie and Zico Herrera pulling the strings. They were ably supported by Kirk Duckworth, Peter Morris, Omando McLeod and former Boys’ Town striker Denzil Watson.
The Red Brigade, who handed a starting spot to schoolboy Jahmiel Hardware, were missing at least five starters and had no answer for the hard-running and more physical Humble Lions team.
Michael Campbell, George Vernal, Anthony Bennett, Peter Keyes and Nathan Wyatt were being outplayed and Boys’ Town should have gone behind early.
In another early game yesterday, Tivoli drubbed hosts Sporting Central Academy 4-0 at Brancourt.
