Windies King eyes second stint Down Under
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — West Indies women’s all-rounder Stacy-Ann King is looking forward to another stint Down Under after returning home this week following a rewarding season with Eastern Suburbs.
The 26-year-old Trinidadian said though adjusting to the new conditions in Australia were challenging, she enjoyed the experience of playing in a new environment.
“It was hard being away from my family and adjusting to the time difference,” said King.
“I was a little disappointed with my batting and I plan to work on that, but I learnt a lot with the ball in terms of getting it to turn big as a left-hander.”
King is a key member of the West Indies setup, having already played 25 One-Day Internationals and 12 Twenty20 Internationals.
The left-hander, who also bowls medium pace, said she was impressed by how well administered and promoted women’s cricket was in Australia and hoped that T&T could follow suit soon.
“Women’s cricket is very organised over there. All the grounds and pitches were first class as opposed to what we play on here which are usually uncut and in poor condition,” she pointed out.
Limited to six matches because of visa issues, King will return to play professionally for Eastern Suburbs when the 2010-2011 cricket season bowls off.
She was one of four West Indies players campaigning under with Kirbyina Alexander, Deandra Dottin and all-rounder Shanel Daley all competing in the Sydney Women Grade Club Cricket League.
King will now focus on her preparation for the upcoming World Twenty20 Championship in the Caribbean from April 30 to May 16.
