One Love!
Veteran musician Winston Riley (centre) formerly of The Techniques, receives a plaque from Stephanie Marley of the Bob Marley Foundation/Museum for his outstanding contribution to the music industry during the Bob Marley One Love Football Extravaganza and Celebrity Olympics held at the National Stadium on Wednesday. Riley was one of three reggae artistes honoured by promoter Clive ‘Busy’ Campbell. The others are Uroy and Jimmy Riley. The event featured a number of local celebrities and personalities competing in two friendly football matches and track events as part of an effort to raise funds for select local children’s charities and relief to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. On the football pitch, the Masters team and the Referees ended 2-2 in the curtain raiser, while in the feature game between Entertainers and Celebrities, the former came from 1-4 down to beat the Celebrities 5-4 in a thrilling game. On the track, Inspector Egbert Moore won the ‘Big Man 50m dash’; Ricardo Chambers won the Media 100m; Chris Vendryes topped the field in the Corporate male 100m, while Tanya Lee of SportsMax beat the field in the Corporate female 100m dash. Denyque was best of the rest in the Female Celebrity 100m, and Beer Vibes topped the field in the Dream Team 4X100m relays.
