Schools seek spots in play-off semis
ONE other team will look to join Ardenne High, Belair and Jamaica College in the ISSA/KFC National Schools Basketball Under-19 semi-finals in the final set of play-off matches this afternoon.
The Junior competition also has one remaining spot with Ardenne, Campion College and Herbert Morrison already through.
In today’s Senior schedule, it’s St George’s College vs Munro College at the National Stadium Courts; Mannings vs Belair at MoBay Cricket Club, and Edwin Allen vs Hydel High at Church of the Nazarene — all starting at 3:30 pm.
In the Junior competition, it’s St George’s vs Cornwall College at the National Stadium Courts; Herbert Morrison vs Knox College in Mobay, and Edwin Allen vs Campion College at Church of the Nazarene at 1:00 pm.
Ardenne’s Seniors qualified for the semi-finals from Group One with victories over Ocho Rios High and Christiana, while Herbert Morrison advanced from Group Two after beating St George’s 68-48 in Montego Bay on Tuesday.
Jervin Hamilton topscored for the winners in that game with 21 points and 24 rebounds.
Belair qualified from Group Four despite having a game in hand, as the pointless Mannings cannot surpass them regardless of today’s results.
With three points each, the winners of the Hydel-Edwin Allen match-up will advance from Group Three.
In the Under-16 section, Ardenne, Campion and Herbert Morrison are already through. St George’s or Munro — who are on three points apiece — can advance from Group Two with a victory.
