No problem in corruption land
Dear Editor,
The cartoon in the Observer of February 15 shows corruption as the common element with the PNP and the ANC. How interesting that the link is with an African country. Have you considered how many Nigerians are in this island and what might be the attraction? Is it a case where the operations of both countries are similar so there is good reason to collaborate? Is there any correlation between the two nationalities and the many scams that continue to emerge as soon as it is believed that a dent is placed in one? Many questions but few answers to those who do not understand “runnings”.
The thinking of some people is that in a country where there is a wholesale “No Problem” hanging loosely around, it gives the impression that whatever is needed can be arranged as there is no problem. All that is required is understanding the system.
The Munster Road guns and ammunition find is alarming to some people, but for others it is nothing new; so what’s next? It is extremely sad to realise that the society from which individuals come to different fields of business is generally corrupt. The utility companies charge for services they have not provided because it is the system. The police ask for cash for not writing a ticket, etc, because it is the system; the politicians talk to the masses and instil a culture of tribal politics – all for the sake of power. The baseline for them is power at any cost. It is a matter of doing and saying whatever I can get away with as long as it gets me in the seat of power.
How shameful and sad! But do not be alarmed, it is Jamaica, No Problem. Are we prepared to make a difference in the war against corruption and leave a good legacy for those who will come after us?
