Village, Rivoli end goalless
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Village United and Rivoli United both ended two-game winning streaks after playing to a 0-0 draw in their Digicel Premier League third-round encounter at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth on Sunday.
The home team dominated the competition and created numerous scoring chances but lacked the decisive finish against a Rivoli team that also had their share of problems in attack.
Rivoli, who improved to 30 points and stayed in sixth position, had a one-dimensional approach to attacking the Village goal, playing almost everything to national striker Devon Hodges who wore the captain’s armband yesterday.
Village inched forward to 27 points, extending their unbeaten run to three games, was playing to their second 1-1 draw at home to Rivoli while losing 1-2 in Spanish Town.
Delroy Ellis had a good chance in the 52nd minute to put Village in front, when he smashed a shot onto the underside of the crossbar, Rivoli goalkeeper Leon Goffe palmed away the threatening ball for a corner.
Village had their best chances late in the game when Mauricio Gordon had opportunities inside the last minute of regulation.
He shot just wide on the first chance and then had a clear run at the goal, beat the last defender but allowed Goffe to come off his line to block his weak attempt.
