Stoute guides B’dos to victory
NEW AMSTERDAM, Guyana (CMC) — A decisive spell of medium-fast bowling from Kevin Stoute helped Barbados advance to a 58-run victory over Guyana in the WICB regional first-class championship yesterday.
Stoute finished with three wickets for 15 runs from 5.4 overs, as Guyana, chasing 329 runs for victory, were dismissed for 270 in their second innings about five minutes before tea on the fourth and final day of their fifth-round match at the Albion Sports Complex.
The Barbados all-rounder formalised the result, when he had tail-ender Brandon Bess caught low down at first slip for 20.
The result cemented Barbados in second place on 45 points — still three behind current leaders and two-time defending champions Jamaica with a match hand — and leaves Guyana rooted on the bottom of the table on seven points.
Barbados’ victory also sets up an intriguing sixth-round contest with the Jamaicans in the next round, starting on Friday at the Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in Trinidad.
