Leaders Harbour View scorch retreating Waterhouse
Goals by Rafeik Thomas, Jermaine Hue and substitute Andre Fagan led leaders Harbour View to a 3-1 victory over Waterhouse in Sunday’s Digicel Premier League game at the Drewsland stadium.
Midfielder Vincent Earle got the lone goal for the homesters, who are without a win since the start of the third round and have now conceded six goals in their last two games.
Coach Geoffrey Maxwell believed lack of concentration has cost Waterhouse dearly in this phase of the competition.
“It’s not that we are playing extremely poor, but we keep throwing games away since this third round has started. Tonight (Sunday) I thought we played well for about 60, 70 minutes and after that it was the same story all over,” he said.
Meanwhile, winning coach Donovan Hayles said the plan is to treat each opponent the same, whether they are high on the points grid or in the vicinity of relegation.
“We are working hard because each game is a final for us. In this league every game counts and I’m glad we are still on top. It doesn’t matter who we beat, it’s three more points and we are happy for that,” he said after his team’s victory.
During the game, Waterhouse created the first chance of the match 11 minutes in when talismanic forward Kevin Lamey scrambled a goal-bound effort from 10 yards out, but goalkeeper Dwayne Miller turned the ball onto the upright and back into play.
Harbour View then capitalised on a chance of their own when defender Dicoy Williams rose high to knock down a corner for the onrushing Thomas to prod into an empty net.
Waterhouse pulled level two minutes before the break when Nicholi Finlayson burst forward, beating two defenders in the process, to set up Earle who finished neatly beyond Miller from 12 yards out.
The Stars of the East, however, ensured they went into the half-time break with the lead when Hue clipped a 20-yard freekick over the wall to beat the despairing dive of Richard McCallum.
The visitors capped off a good performance when lax defending allowed an unmarked Fagan to pounce on a short freekick to tap past the advancing McCallum from a tight angle four minutes into time added on.
