J’cans in Youth Olympic Games badminton qualifier
Jamaicans Dennis Coke and Anthony McNee will participate in the Pan Am Youth Olympic Games badminton qualification tournament which started Sunday morning in Lima, Peru.
The two Jamaican youngsters accompanied by coach Lisco Jackson left the island Saturday for Panama en route to Lima.
Coke, a St Anne’s High School student and current National Junior Champion, will be playing in his first ever international.
This was his second selection as a national representative, but he was unable to secure a US visa to last year’s Pan American Junior Badminton Championships held in Puerto Rico.
McNee, a 2009 Pan Am Juniors bronze medallist hails from St Jago High and will be wearing the Jamaican colours for the fourth time.
Both athletes are products of the Jamaica Badminton Association’s successful Inner-city Programme.
