Ja’s Jordan sets Conference record
JEROME Jordan made only one block Wednesday to become Conference USA all-time leader when his University of Tulsa defeated the University of Southern Mississippi, 60-52, at the Donald W Reynolds Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The seven-foot Jamaican scored all 14 points in the second half, as he was aggressively fronted for most of the game. He scored 12 of his 14 points with 4:31 left in the game.
With a career 315 block shots in the Conference USA, Jordan surpassed East Carolina’s Moussa Badiane (2002-2005), who ended with 314 blocks.
“It was a good feeling getting that first one. I was trying to push it further, but they were not coming my way,” he said.
A likely second-round pick in the NBA 2010 draft, Jordan has helped extended Tulsa’s home-court winning to 23 games, the third best in all conferences of the National Collegiate Athletic Associaton (NCAA).
Jordan scored three of five field goals and converted eight of 10 free throws Wednesday for an average of 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game this season.
Tulsa remain in second place in the Conference USA standing with an 8-2 record and trail leaders University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) 9-1.
The Golden Hurricanes will welcome fourth-placed University of Memphis tomorrow night at 7:00 at the Donald W Reynolds Center.
