Treasures Unfold: Bacchanal Opening Night
The season is here again! Which season you ask? The Bacchanal season of course and this year’s theme is Bacchanal Treasures. Last Friday the Mas Camp Village officially opened the 2010 Bacchanal Jamaica Carnival season with the opening night for Bacchanal Fridays.
Set to take place every Friday until March 26, each Friday night will take on a different vibe under the ‘treasures’ theme. Kicking off at around 9:00 pm, the venue slowly filled with soca lovers of all ages as Sparkles Disco played soca favourites from previous years.
Phenomenally designed by Earl Franklin and his team, the various sponsor booths filed with patrons who were getting drinks or enjoying the amazing décor that perfectly depicted the season’s theme. Others were drawn towards the costume booth, where this year’s ensembles were on display. By the way, if you haven’t already gone to pick out your own, the time is now.
As the night progressed, the ‘soca warriors’ continued to build the high energy that will take them through the well anticipated season. By 11:30 pm the venue was at its full capacity and the DJs sent out a slew of old favourites, a few new hits and even some popular dancehall songs on soca rhythms. As it hit midnight the tone of music slightly changed as the sound of popular Bob Marley hits were played in celebration of his birthday. All in all the night was good, and although the dj’s chipped in a few dancehall tunes and focused mainly on old favourites, it’s bacchanal so it can only get better.
If you missed it last week then you definitely must be there this week. Come and enjoy the vibe, and get up to date on this year’s hot new music to be ready for the many events of the Bacchanal Jamaica Carnival season.
