All-Star weekend preview
With the NBA All-Star weekend just days away, TEENage has decided to give you our readers a preview of the competitions which will no doubt leave memories in our heads.
T-Mobile Rookie Challenge (February 12)
While the ‘top dogs’ will be on show in the main event on Sunday, the rookies and sophomores, who have impressed throughout the league thus far, will have an opportunity to show how they have developed since joining the league.
Celebrity Game (February 12)
More for the humour than anything else, household celebrities from the East and West square-off against each other in a battle for ‘bragging rights’. Among the headliners are actor/comedian Chris Tucker and rapper Common.
Taco Bell Skills Challenge (February 13)
This competition tests dribbling, passing and shooting. Returning champion and 2009 Rookie of the Year, Derrick Rose will be facing up against 2010 Rookie of the Year candidate Brandon Jennings, the best passer in the league at present Steve Nash and the in-form Deron Williams.
Foot Locker Three-Point Contest (February 13)
Six competitors will do battle for the coveted title of Three-Point champion. Daequan Cook will have to defend his title against Chauncey Billups, Stephen Curry, Channing Frye, Danilo Gallinari and Paul Pierce.
Sprite Slam Dunk Contest (February 13)
Nate ‘The Great’ Robinson will be aiming to be the first player to win the event three times but will have the likes of Shannon Brown, Gerald Wallace and Eric Gordon/DeMar DeRozan (who face off in a Dunk-In contest) to contend with.
NBA All-Star Showdow (February 14)
All eyes will be fixed to the screens to see the Eastern Conference All-Stars face-off against their Western Conference rivals. The event is already tipped to be bigger and better than before and is to be held at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
