Reno, Seba hunt mid-season title
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Captain’s Bakery Western Confederation Super League mid-season title and first prize of $10,000 will be at stake this evening when former champions Reno FC and Seba United meet at Jarrett Park in the play-offs, starting at 7:00.
The game was originally set to start at 5:00 pm but was later pushed back, it was heard on behest of the sponsors.
Reno and Seba, the only unbeaten teams in the competition, topped the first round with 29 points each, with Reno marginally ahead of the Montego Bay club on goal difference.
Today’s game, which is a play-to-finish encounter, promises to be a close and exciting one as both teams are in good form and have combined for 46 goals, shared equally, but Reno have conceded just two goals, to Seba’s six.
Reno last conceded a goal in a 1-1 draw against Frome and since then have won four games in a row without conceding a goal.
The teams played to a 0-0 scoreline when they met earlier in the season.
Former National Youth goalkeeper Dennis Taylor will anchor the Reno defence, and the Seba attack — which should be led by Wilfred Smith, Jeremy Bucknor and Iton Scott — could have a difficult time breaching their opponents’ goal.
Martin Williams has scored in Reno’s last three games and will be the point man for the Wendell Downswell-coached team, along with O’Brien Woodbine, Tremaine Perry and Davian Thorpe.
