Finsac truths need to be revealed
Dear Editor,
In Jamaica, corruption at all levels in the society has become a way of life and this is manifested in many ways.
A few years ago a known homosexual was brutally murdered at his place of residence and it was said that one of the perverted things that he liked to do was to take pictures of the many people who attended parties that he frequently held for his associates of similar persuasion.
To this day you will hear the names of people who are reputed to have been caught on tape in very uncompromising positions – some of the names represent the ‘who is who’ in the country. While there has been a strong lobby for these tapes to be made public so that innocent names are not dragged into the dirt, nothing has been forthcoming.
A similar situation is now being played out at the Finsac enquiry.
A list of people who were “finsac’d” has been around for some time but as usual, nobody has ever seen the list yet everybody knows who is on this list.
Well, it has now been revealed that many people were given write-offs on enormous sums accrued on loans as high as $300 million, which was settled for $4 million, and as is the norm in Jamaica various names are being bandied about as to who these people are.
I am using this medium to call on the chairman of the inquiry, Justice Boyd Carey, to have published in the newspapers the names of all persons who were” finsac’d” so that the speculation about who was given write-offs and those, like Mrs Gray, who got nothing and still owes $85 million after repaying $52 million, be ended.
It is now very clear for all to see why there has been such a strong lobby to prevent this very important enquiry from taking place.
