Church Pen shine in St Catherine league
CHURCH Pen CC continued to impress in notching yet another win in the Jamaica Energy Partners cricket competition in the St Catherine senior league.
The win marked another interesting round as all the top teams posted wins. The big disappointment, however, was Wakefield.
As it was in the first round two Sundays ago, there was a century-maker for Church Pen as the former Jamaican wicketkeeper Keith Hibbert notched 105. Andre Russell, who made a century in the first round, managed 71 this time around.
Church Pen, winning the toss and batting first against Dela Vega City, made 272-8 declared at the John Walters Oval in Church Pen. Hibbert was especially harsh on former Jamaican under-19 bowler Wayne Morgan and Karl Robinson, both of whom he hit all over the park.
His innings ended when he was clean-bowled by Spanish Town High schoolboy Oshane Wilson with the slower ball. Wayne Morgan took 6-95.
In their turn at bat, Dela Vega were dismissed for 129, with Hibbert taking 2-5, Marshall March 2-9 and Russell 2-22.
In other matches, Central Village beat Old Harbour Bay by four wickets.; Correctional Services beat Basement by nine wickets; Lakes Pen beat Belmont by 70 runs; and Naseberry Grove Police Youth Club beat JUTC by nine wickets.
Today’s schedule:
Lakes Pen vs Correctional Services at Jose Marti; Basement vs Belmont at Tru Juice Oval; Old Harbour Bay vs Travellers, at JPSCo Oval, Wakefield vs Central Village at Buxon Town; Dela Vega vs Old Harbour CC at Old Harbour Comm Centre; Naseberry Grove PYC vs Ewarton at Old Road Centre; Taxi Association vs JUTC at Lime Tree Oval and Church Pen vs Unique CC at Church Pen.
