Suit to halt Finsac enquiry filed in Supreme Court
AN application to quash the current enquiry into the financial sector meltdown of the 1990s, and Financial Sector Adjustment Company’s (Finsac) role thereafter, was yesterday filed in the Supreme Court.
The suit is seeking a Judicial Review of the decision of the commission to continue in the face of allegations that Chairman Justice Boyd Carey had a debt with the collapsed Century National Bank — one of the entities at the heart of the enquiry.
The suit is also making allegations of bias on Carey’s part.
Named as claimants on the suit are former Finance Minister Omar Davies, his former financial secretary Shirley Tyndall, attorney Patrick Hylton and the Jamaica Redevelopment Foundation.
Carey, and fellow commissioners Charles Ross and Worrick Bogle are listed as defendants.
No hearing date has been set.
The claimants are expected to ask the court for an injunction barring the sitting of the commission, pending the outcome of the Judicial Review.
