Lions humble St Georges SC 1-0
BUFF BAY, Portland — Humble Lions striker Denzil Watson’s header in the 48th minute was enough to silence the partisan St Georges SC supporters, which gave the visitors a 1-0 win in their Digicel Premier League match on Wednesday evening at Lynch Park.
The writing was always on the wall as Humble Lions were the first to target goal in the early goings through efforts by Omando McLeod, Kevin Mighty and Denzil Watson.
But the visitors’ forward march was repelled by the defensive trio of brothers Jermaine Taylor, and Ricardo Taylor and Gary Banton.
On the attacking front, the Georgians countered through Nigel Reid. On one of his goalmouth moves, he darted down the right flank and measured a good cross into the area, but lurking Denroy Dennis and Waheem Walker failed to get any purchase on the ball.
Watson’s goal was scored following a cross from Locksley Thomas.
Humble Lions coach Christopher Bender was delighted for the three points. “Getting this three points have helped us, as when we started this game we were at the bottom of the table and just a win here can take us to eight or seven as the table is so close.
The losers’ Braxton Hyre was a disappointed man. “This is a hard lost at home… we created several chances and did not put away any and paid for it,” he said.
