Romeich’s statements
We’re sure many of you have looked at quite a number of our local celebs and wondered who conceptualised and designed some of our stars hottest outfits. For years Romeich Major has been dressing our stars for stage shows, award ceremonies and other major events. Chino, Beenie Man, Konshens, Mavado, Alaine, Tarrus Riley, Bounty Killa, G-Whizz and Aidonia are just a few of the stars that he has designed for.
Major who started designing in October 2004 said that he used to design a lot of his own stuff when he attended Ardenne High School.
“I started because of my love for clothes. I started dressing for my best friend, Marlon Samuels, then TOK until I later on met Garth Walker who basically gave me the UPT link,” Majpr explained.
Anyone who has seen Romeich’s designs knows that he thinks out of the box and his designs are out of this world. This he says is due to the fact that he likes his clothes ‘loud’. His style is defined by his signature look of rhinestones and diamond stones.
“Just look at my logo” he quips, “as you wear a Romeich design you stand out anywhere and that’s what I love.”
Major, who is the CEO of his own little empire not only does fashion designing, but he also produces music, runs his mother’s company that supplies lumber and makes furniture, even for some of his A-list clients he states. Because he has so many responsibilities on his plate Romeich employs a total of nine part-time workers.
“I’ve been in the business for five years now, but I didn’t actually start making money until last year and I needed the help because I don’t have the patience or the time. I have so many things doing. Me cah even string ah needle.”
The main focus of Romeich wear are button-ups, jacket and vests. T-shirts, Romeich states are mainly for promotional purposes. Screen-printing, process-printing and foil print are just a few of the techniques used in the design process. The biggest clientele according to Romeich is Corporate Jamaica.
“Red Stripe, Smirnoff Ice, Digicel, Magnum and all the brands at Wysinco are some of the companies that I design for. They are the best clients you could ever have.”
Everyone can come to Romeich to get their individual looks. Most of the designs are made order but be sure to check out Tasha-May’s Fashion very soon where Romeich Wear Apparel will be available. Romeich mainly does designs for the males so be sure to check out the varied designs modeled by two of dancehall’s biggest stars; Chino and Konshens.
