Milk River blank New Bowens in Clarendon Major League
HAYES, Clarendon — Milk River United surged to the top of the standings in the Clarendon Football Association/Captain’s Bakery Major League with a big 4-0 whipping of New Bowens FC on Thursday at the Rest Primary playing field.
Jemeal Forrester hit a brace to take his season tally to four, while Shanneil Russell and Jamie Fothergill were the other scorers for Milk River who are now the only unbeaten team in the 10-team league with a maximum nine points from their three outings. They are two points clear of nearest rivals Sunnyside FC.
The defeat, which was New Bowens’ first, saw them being relegated to fourth-place with seven points.
Meanwhile, in the shock result of the round, the improving York Town rallied from a goal down at half-time to clipped Sunnyside 2-1 at Wembly on Saturday.
Nicholas Francis (14th) gave Sunnyside a 1-0 one advantage at the halfway stage, but York Town came crawling back in the second half, scoring twice within two minutes for their first victory of the campaign.
Oshane Powell drew York Town level in the 62nd minute, before Andre Morgan in the 64th sealed the win that took them to five points in sixth position.
At Clarendon College, Rock River (four) saw three points for the first time, as second-half goals from Kemar Mitchell in the 53rd minute and Gladston Pusey in the 80th handed them a 2-0 win over ninth-placed Gayle (one). They are now in seventh.
In other results, Demar Johnson in the 52nd minute notched his second goal of the season in Longwood’s 1-0 win over rock-bottom Young Strikers. Longwood moved up to third with seven points.
Sanguinetti FC stayed fifth after edging Gimme-me-bit 1-0 at Cobbla. Merrick Banton got the lone goal.
