Monymusk move up in South Central Super League
NEW BOWENS, Clarendon — Kenroy Web hit a brace as Monymusk FC trounced Tafari Lions 5-0 on Saturday at the Lacovia Community Centre to move two places up to joint-third in the South Central Confederation Super League.
The Clarendon-based unit are now on 17 points, the same as Newlands (who are ahead by a goal) and one point clear of fifth-placed Bodles FC.
In other results, leaders Meadows FC extended their unbeaten run to 10 games, after blanking Naggo Head 2-0 in one of two St Catherine derbies on the day.
The Super League debutants are now three points clear atop the tables with 24 points and look almost certain to secure one of the four semi-final spots up for grabs.
At the Bybrook Oval, second place Tru Juice (21) lost ground on the leaders after they were held to a 1-1 stalemate with Newlands in the other St Catherine derby.
Last season’s beaten finalist Bodles FC (16) kept their hopes of a top-four finish alive by edging lowly Original Hazard (seven) 1-0 at New Bowens thanks to an own goal.
Downs FC (13) moved four points above the relegation zone with a 4-1 whipping of Hillstars (eight) in the Manchester derby at the Downs Community Centre.
At the Turners Oval in Chapelton, promoted Woodhall FC blanked fellow strugglers Leads 2-0, but remained in the drop zone with nine points.
Meanwhile, at New Bowens, both teams failed to break the deadlock after 45 minutes, as they tussled for position in midfield. Home team Original Hazard, however, had more goal-mouth action and drew close to scoring on two occasions.
In minute 25, Dwayne Thomas had his left-footed drive from some 25 yards out smartly saved by Jeffery Sares in goal for Bodles, before Sheldon Bryan spurned a 38th-minute sitter from six yards when he kicked to Sares’ near post with three unmarked teammates to his left.
Bodles returned in the second stanza and took the lead in the 61st minute against the run of play courtesy of a defender’s goal.
Dave Bercham shrugged off his marker to find Sanjay Wright down the right flank with a delightful through ball.
Wright kept his cool and sent in a low right-sided cross from which Original Hazard’s Ryan Hanson, who was under no pressure, somehow managed to beat his goalie from seven yards while trying to make the clearance.
