Last year, TEENage saw many celebrities from different aspects captivating Jamaica with their work and presence. However, there can only be five people whom TEENage believes are the most captivating

5 Keith ‘Shebada’ Ramsey
Keith ‘Shebada’ Ramsey rounds off our top five list for captivating people of 2009. Audiences all around simple adore him, whether he’s playing a police, or a a pastor, one must agree that this drama darling was a forced to be reckoned with in 2009.
Ramsey, who launched his comedy career on the popular comedy show Comedy Buss, have shown Jamaicans since then that he his a talent worth watching. Then came Shebada Comes to Town, Like Father Like Son, Di Driver and Serious Business among many other favorites that had everyone on a high. He as beyond doubt revived and changed the way Jamaicans and people abroad picture the local theatre scene.
4 Nadine Blair
When it comes to influential people who instill great values and teachings in our youths, one name stands above the rest. It is indeed the powerful and captivating woman of God, Nadine Blair, who blasted the media field last year with her daring passion for God.
This media mogul constantly assaults our senses, appearing everywhere from live television and radio on Love FM/TV to major gospel concert events globally. Blair a co-hosts on the popular morning time programme Love In The Morning and hosts the Jamaican Expression highlights that musicians and artistes should see themselves as more than just ‘entertainers’, but understand their purpose and role in kingdom building.
Blair’s creations, such as ‘Allowed to Shine Ministries’ — the umbrella organisation for Perpetual Praise, was heavily requested for worship sessions across Jamaica and overseas — ‘Singled Out Singles Ministry’; ‘When the Ministers Meet To Pray’ and ‘Praise In Da Streets’ all triggered a sense of comfort and trust when we saw her. The more we saw the Miss Perpetually Praising, the more we liked her, which explains why she ranks fourth on TEENage Most Captivating People of 2009.
3 Miss Kitty
Jamaican media culture has many media personalities that we all ‘know’ and admire and as far as those go, Miss Kitty (Khadine Hylton) is certainly captivating.
This ‘Fluffy Queen’, is fresh in the business and had a captivating year in 2009, doing work with big companies, hosting and appearing on numerous of major concert events, parties and comedy shows.
She is outspoken and has grown into becoming the baddest thing on the radio with her unique rooted, but intellectual style. When we recognise one positive attribute about a person, we here at TEENage endorses it to the fullest — and apparently, we do! Media darling Miss Kitty is our number three ranked captivating person.
2 Shaggy
Grammy-winning reggae/pop superstar Shaggy, (Orville Burrell), is one of those people who had a great and captivating year in ’09. As a pioneer of music that captivates the mind, he breaks down genre and technological boundaries to entertain and unite the people of the world.
How can one forget last yea’rs captivating venture lead by Shaggy making a difference in children’s lives through his art with his Make A Difference Foundation. Shaggy in 2009 along with friends held a charity concert on the lawns of Jamaica House in aid of purchasing well-needed equipment for the Bustamante Hospital for Children. What’s more, Shaggy and his friends managed to raise a whopping J$27 million. The second staging of this charity event, ‘Shaggy and Friends I Dare You 2010’, was staged on the second of January of this year, and it was too a tremendous success.
Even after receiving just about every accolade possible, Shaggy is still down to earth and one of the hardest-working recording artistes out there, spreading his love of trance music to the people. This is why he his ranked number two in our captivating list.
1 Usain Bolt
2009 was obviously a captivating year for the Honorably Usain St Leo Bolt, OJ, CD. Bolt had his most successful World Championships to date at the 2009 World Championship games, winning three gold medals and breaking both 100 and 200 metre records with record-breaking times of 9.58 and 19.09 seconds respectively. This captivating performance made Bolt the first man to hold the 100 and 200 m world and Olympic titles at the same time.
Due to his captivating performance in athletics, Bolt was named the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for 2009 among loads of other top awards worldwide.
Bolt also hosted the 9.58 Super Party, which featured a range of international and top Jamaican artistes, held at the Richmond Estate in St Ann.
Proceeds from this event was donated to various foundations through the United Way Charity, a worldwide support organisation for a network of nearly 1,800 community-based United Way branches in 45 countries and territories. He also launched a fashion line in partnership with Sun Island Jamaica Limited that will help support charities that better the island nation of Jamaica. Bolt nabbed a first-place finish on our list.
