Scorching new release for Cherine & Natel
RECENTLY, Cherine Anderson and 2005 Digicel’s Rising Stars contestant, Natel, ignited chemistry in their debut video You Turn Me On.
The single, which artfully captures the irresistible attraction between a man and a woman in love, has been racing up local and international reggae charts in Jamaica, Japan and the USA.
TEENage was behind the scenes from start to finish, lyming with the crew.
First, for those of you who might be speculate that there is something behind the action, TEENage found out that both Cherine and Natel admitted having their own little ‘heartbeat’ at home, not on set.
But that is not all we discovered. Between make-up application, setting up and poking jokes, TEENage got up close and personal with members of the crew and the duo to find out more about the video’s concept and their expectations once it hits local and international television stations.
Tête-à-tête with Cherine and Natel
Since the Digicel’s Rising Stars competition, Natel’s music catalogue has grown rapidly under the management of Mikey Bennett of Grafton Music Studio.
However, his duet and video with Cherine are the hallmarks of his music career, for which he is extremely delighted and grateful.
Both admitted that their scorching love song originated from a spontaneous hook-up at Grafton studio, where Natel, at the time, was recording his soon-to-be-released single In the Mood.
“Cherine was like ‘Wow! Him can sing”, so she got the rhythm and went home and wrote the lyrics, then we met after and worked it through together,” Natel explained.
Cherine admitted that she was never hesitant about collaborating with Natel.
“I could see (and hear) that he is an amazing singer who has a natural talent, and who is well-respected and embraced by Jamaicans,” Anderson said.
Natel, on the other hand, stated that he admires Cherine’s confidence and her ability to remain steadfast in her endeavours, and so it was great working with her.
Expectations for the video
The songbird, who describes her music as a flavourful dancehall and soul mix, warned that the visuals for the video will be just as scorching as the song’s lyrics.
“Expect some funky fashion, a completely liberated and evolved Cherine, along with a fresh and sexy vibe. Jamaica and the world will see me in a swimsuit for the first time,” she teased with a smile.
And believe us, there is an absolutely seductive scene to surprise you.
Crew worked magic
The mastery of the production crew on set was simply inspiring. Honing their talents, video producer Jan’l Hastings-Robinson, along with video director Kevin Lee and his assistant director, Shawn Bryan, beautifully pulled off the scorching visuals for the video.
They worked tirelessly with their dedicated camera, audio and engineering crew through the pelting midday sun to the cold midnight dew.
Make-up artists Audi Bacchas and Paul March, along with Cherine’s hairstylist, Trisha Rowe, swiftly changed Cherine from one ravishing belle to another in between breaks. And to complement her with the most dynamic accessories was Duane Bennett from Reve Jewellers.
Evidently, from the briefly reviewed shots from the video, the entire crew’s input was well worth it.
Not to give away too much details, but the visuals are sharp and diverse, particularly the hair-rising pool scene with Cherine, sensuously flaunting a sleek purple swimsuit, which magnetically attracted the eyes of every male on set! Even Sanjay from Intense, was screaming for lights on!
Be sure to also catch the scene where Cherine wears one of her own designs, a bright topaz fluffy dress, which she credited her mom for making, and some jaw-dropping stiletto heels emphasising those thighs.
2010 Music Catalogue
Look out for Natel’s video for In the Mood and Cherine’s album later this year. She promises that it has a “different energy, up-tempos with an eclectic mix of soulful dancehall.”
Cherine will also be touring Canada and Europe in February of this year with her management team, Sly and Robbie.
