All systems go for PlayJamaica.com
PLAYJAMAICA.COM, the first browser-based online gaming website in the Caribbean, was all set to take the Jamaican populace by storm yesterday. The site had its soft launch in the summer of 2009, and has since made a name for itself by offering exciting, fresh and electrifying games to its users from the comfort of their computers via a reliable Internet connection.
The slogan “Simple Games… Real Winners” epitomses PlayJamaica.com, where an assortment of games are offered for enjoyment, with daily and weekly tournaments giving users a chance to win exhilarating prizes. The site has hundreds of registered users, since the soft launch, and the numbers keep growing as Jamaica catches the online gaming fever offered by PlayJamaica.com.
“It’s a phenomenon, our numbers keep growing and the feedback that we have gotten is that the games are just addictive”, Ryan Moore, CEO of PlayJamaica Ltd, explained, “Without advertising previously, the website has taken on a life of its own; I’m anticipating great things come the start of the tournaments.”
Daily tournaments starting on January 25 will be followed by weekly tournaments to begin in February. Some of the electrifying prizes include gaming consoles, laptops, cellular telephones, flash drives and mobile phone credit.
Gregory Moore, technical director for the website, acknowledged, “Daily tournaments are a new addition to PlayJamaica.com, as during the soft launch period, only weekly tournaments were offered, now we can have more winners per week.”
With the launch of the revamped website, PlayJamaica.com gaming credit will be immediately available for tournament players in 21 locations in Kingston, with additional locations being set up islandwide. Players can purchase game credits in $50, $100, $200, $300 or $500 denominations.
According to Marlon Lodge, CEO of MLK Systems, web developer of PlayJamaica.com, “We are thrilled to be a part of this new and fascinating endeavour. PlayJamaica.com has provided us with the ideal demonstration of how it is now possible to build engaging interactions on the Internet with mass appeal. We are hoping that Jamaicans will come to realise that with the current state of technology, our only limitation is our imagination.”
As developers of the point-of-sale software for the electronic distribution of the PlayJamaica.com vouchers, Management Control Systems (MCS) is a part of this exciting venture of facilitating recreational activity to the wider public via the use of technology. TransAction ePins Limited — business partner of MCS — will seek to expand the number of gaming credit locations across the island via its current distribution network.
