The Realest video in a long while
Video review: The Realest Song
Director: Garfield ‘Konshens’ Spence
Co-Director, camera work and editing: Gareth Cobran (ID Studios)
POPULAR artiste Konshens put a spin on the mundane music video with his video for The Realest Song on the Better Life Rhythm.
Originally produced by Cash Flow, the song made its way onto the music scene in late 2008 and gained quick popularity because of the well needed, deep, positive and uplifting lyrics. But a good song should always be complimented by a good video, and that it definitely is.
Taking it to the streets of Kingston and St Andrew, particularly Half-Way-Tree, Crossroads and New Kingston, the self-directed video featured the everyday people and had only one scene where Konshens was seen.
Along with the random people going about their daily business, the video also features Tifa, Raine Seville, Tarrus Riley and Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange.
The concept for the video is rarely seen and the real life activities that many of us see on a regular basis, helps to further carry across the message of The Realest Song.
To top it off, Gareth Cobran did an amazing job as the video editing is clean, even as the scenes changed from day to night.
On another note, at first glance the video seemed similar to Chino’s Never Change, as it highlighted our people. But Konshens’ video doesn’t only show you, the people, but also makes them the spotlight. All in all, the mere fact that Konshens’ video gives us goosebumps is more than a sign that the video gives the uplifting lyrics even more definition and passion.
