Seven urban ISSA/TT matches on today
The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Table Tennis Competition serves off today with the playing of seven urban boys matches.
Urban girls play their first set of matches tomorrow and play in the rural section starts on Thursday.
Today’s matches, which are all scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm with home teams named first, are in boys Under-19, defending champions Calabar versus St Jago, Gaynstead versus Hillel and Ardenne versus Cumberland.
In boys Under-16, defending champions Kingston College versus Meadowbrook, Calabar versus St Jago, Gaynstead versus Hillel and last year’s beaten finalists Campion versus St George’s College.
The Under-19 boys are divided into two groups, with Group One comprising defending champions Calabar, St Jago, Hillel and Gaynstead. Group Two contains former many-time champions Kingston College (1997 to 2005 and 2008), former two-time champions Wolmer’s (2006 and 2007), Ardenne and Cumberland.
The Under-16 boys — this age-group was inaugurated in 2008 — are also divided into two groups. Group One contains champions Calabar, St Jago, St George’s, Hillel and Gaynstead. Group Two has defending champions Kingston College, Wolmer’s, Ardenne and Meadowbrook.
The top three teams from each of these boys Under-19 and Under-16 groups will advance to the semi-finals, which are scheduled to be played on March 10.
On this day, the six advancing teams in each age-group will be divided into two groups and the top teams from each group will progress to the finals, which will be played on the same day.
These urban champions will meet rural champions (to be decided on March 12) on March 18, for the All-Island title.
