Maxwell rues Waterhouse’s missed chances
Waterhouse coach Geoffrey Maxwell said his side paid the price for not taking their chances as they lost 0-1 to Harbour View FC in the second end-of-round final of the Digicel Premier League at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Maxwell’s side entered the final as favourites after losing only once in the second round. They started the game brighter before falling behind to a beautiful Lovel Palmer volley.
Jermaine Anderson and captain Kenardo Forbes muffed golden opportunities, as Waterhouse camped inside Harbour View’s area for most of the first half and the game was virtually dead after Harbour View went into ultra-defensive mood and played on the counter.
Maxwell Said: “I thought we played very well; we got the chances, (but) we didn’t put them away. Harbour view got one solid chance… excellent goal, beautifully taken.”
“I just thought the discipline in midfield tonight was very poor…. but it was an excellent game, I enjoyed watching it,” he added.
Maxwell, who turned around the fortunes of a team that lost six matches in the first round, but lost just once in the second round, berated the poor display by his midfielders.
“Our discipline inside midfield was just disgraceful,” Maxwell said. “But not to take anything away from them… it was a very good, tactical game (where) we got our chances, didn’t put them away and we paid the price,” he said.
Talismanic striker Kevin Lamey started on the bench, but Maxwell says the in-form striker, who was a 62nd-minute substitute, has a niggling ankle injury, which needs to be managed properly.
Waterhouse are now second in the overall standings on 39 points, three behind league leaders Harbour View.
